Why Is Surfing Better Than Skiing?

I’ve personally been a long-time surfer and done some skiing from time to time. Even though I haven’t been a long-term skier, I believe that I’m qualified enough to write this blog post, comparing surfing and skiing.

On average, surfing is better than skiing for these specific reasons. Socially, surfers are known as being far more popular than skiers. Surfers mostly have great bodies, due to the fitness of surfing. In contrast, skiers are not known for being popular or having great bodies. Surfers usually have better fashion, in contrast to skier’s fluoro winter clothing.

Reasons Why Surfing Is Better Than Skiing

Surfers are mostly less stressed due to the nature of surfing. Every day, a surfer can visit the beach where hundreds of beautiful girls are all the time. Surfers usually have a higher level of fitness and the bodies that go along with that. Surfing is cheaper than skiing to buy all the equipment required too.

Surfing Costs Less Than Skiing As A Sport

To start Surfing, the absolute basics you’ll need to begin surfing is less than what is required for someone wanting to start skiing.

Basic Surfing Equipment Required:

  • Surfboard
  • Leg-Rope
  • Wetsuit

Basic Skiing Equipment Required:

  • Skiis
  • Ski Boots
  • Ski Goggles
  • Ski Gloves
  • Winter pants
  • Winter Jacket

When you compare the costs of surfing versus skiing, you’ll notice that skiers will need to buy double the amount of baseline equipment just to get started.

The list above is the most basic of lists of the two sports. Keep in mind, that surfers won’t always even need a wetsuit in summer, which makes surfing even cheaper in comparison.

Surfers Are Healthier Than Skiers On Average

Skiers unfortunately don’t get any chance to do cardio. Sure a skier might take their ski’s off and walk hear and there, but it’s not enough to really burn calories.

The ski slope lifts will take a skier back to the top of the run, I’ve never seen a skier run back to the top, sure that would be silly, especially when it’s easier to just take the expensive lift you’ve already paid for.

Therefore, most skiers don’t really need to have a high degree of fitness, it’s not a requirement to be super fit as a skier. This is why you’ll see so many children and older people skiing. Skiers have the option to use as much energy as they choose.

If a skier gets tired, they can take a break at any stage in the process of skiing. Surfers on the other hand cannot take a break if a big wave is coming or they are stuck in a rip current.

Surfing does require a certain level of cardio fitness and skiing does not. Surfers are forced to act according to the oceans demands, this makes the waves a natural fitness trainer who is always pushing surfers to work. Whereas, skiers can take a break at anytime, this build complacency in the skier, which makes them less fit and healthy than surfers

Skiers Have Daily Ski Pass Costs And Surfers Have None

On average, skiing is more expensive than surfing. The daily costs for a skier can be around $100 dollars per day (and getting more expensive every year). Skiers have to pay copious amounts of costs that surfers don’t have. Hotel bills, resort stay costs and the list goes on. Whereas, surfers only need their surfing gear and the waves.

Both surfers and skiers have to travel to a specific location for their respective sports, so I’ve removed this from the conversation as it cancels each others expenses out. If we want to be extra specific here, skiers tend to need cars that can handle driving in the snow.

A car that can drive in the snow is usually more expensive than the basic type of car that will be needed to get a surfer to the beach.

Also, driving in the snow will require ”snow chains” to be attached to the wheels of the car. They can cost up to $200 dollars and this is not an expense a surfer has to worry about.

Surfing Is Cool Compared To Skiing: Why Are Surfers So Cool?

Why are surfers so cool? Everyone knows surfers are known as being cool, especially compared to skiers. The mix of hot days at the beach, girls and a surfer body. All these things add to an overall display of high value.

Surfers usually have their shirts off, with a nice tan. Mix this all with a surer body and throw in a few beach babes and it’s impossible not to be drawn to becoming a surfer.

Skiing Is Mostly A Family Sport – Surfing Is A Young Single Good Looking Person Sport

Skiing as a sport on the other hand tries to market itself as a sport by using snow bunnies and young good looking couples. However, when you actually go to a ski resort, you’ll mostly see families going on holidays.

You’ll find yourself battling a 10 year old kid for access to the ski lifts as you hear mothers yelling at their children for drifting too far away from the family.

The same issue will be endured at the ski resorts, families clugging up all of the common areas, which does become annoying when you are younger and want to have some quiet enjoyment in your life.

Surfers Are Surrounded By Beach Babes And Skiers Are Not

This is not a shaming exercise, this is not designed to ridicule anyone. Just pointing out something this is objective truth between surfing and skiing.

Hahahaha this is a funny but true topic to discuss. People in general are afraid to wear swim wear at the beach if they’re unfit or slightly overweight. This self imposed social pressure ensures that only the most attractive people sun back at the beach.

On the other hand. Skiers can be any fitness level, size and shape, because they can cover themselves up in multiple layers of clothing. I’m not judging at all, this is no ones fault. It’s just an aspect of society where beach goers are usually more attractive.

This is another win for surfing.

Surf Waves Are More Exciting Than Ski Slopes

The dynamic balance required for surfing waves is far more exciting than catching a stagnant ski run slope surface. The unpredictable nature of surfing makes it more exciting and will evoke a higher level of adrenalin in the surfer.

Skiers can choose to ski down larger mountains for the bigger rush, sure that’s the case. But surfers can do the same, surfers can ride waves that-if they fall would be their last wave. So, both skiers and surfers can scale it up to massive extreme sport levels. On average, surfing is more exciting though.
